8.8 Species

Species

There are no humans native to Rearth Vega. They are all gone (or read the last paragraph below). Most all playable Species are hybrids of a humanoid being- with 2 arms, 2 legs, and a somewhat similar shape and size to a human.

Create any Species a Player wants but there is no extra skill or ability given anyone based on their Species… so if you homebrew an Octopus person- they don’t get multiple more actions because they have more tentacles. All Species are “equal” and have no inherent benefit or deficiency over other species

GiftersAll other endless possibilities. Viewed by some cultures as inanimate objects “gifted” sentience by the gods, Gifters have the same abilities and consciousness as all other species but appear in a form often considered “not living” such as Rock, Metal, Water… a magic book brought to life or a living statue?

Driven species– whether driven from the surface or driven by their nature

DemonsHands for feet, horns on head, multiple eyes, common in the Neath, Duskrealm and Liminal City, ravenous appetite for flesh.
DevilsHooves for feet, horns on head, common in the Neath and Duskrealm, ravenous appetite to manipulate and control.
AngelsFeathered wings and many eyes, common in the Liminal City, ravenous appetite for obedience.
OrcsBoarlike faces, aggressive, common in Mountains, Forests, and Plains, ravenous appetite for battle.
GoblinsSmall in stature with large features, petty, common in the Faefree, a ravenous appetite for treasure.
Dire ElvesColorless, deceitful, banned from the Faefree, common in the Neath, a ravenous appetite for vengeance and spite.
VampyrsFanged, manipulative, common in Gel Gran and Devany, a ravenous appetite for blood.

Warning. Waaaaaaarrrrrning. All Orcs are bad. All Dire Elves are bad. All Devils are bad. All Demons are bad. All Goblins are bad. All Vampyrs are bad. All have major civilizations, all have a wide variety of personalities within their cities. All will eventually make evil choices and all will kill you 99.999999 percent of the time. If you want to be the “one” who is a good guy, go for it, but as cursed people they are pawns of their Gods (although maybe everyone is) but they will work without freewill and as extensions of their Evil Gods when the important choices come about. Can they be communicated with? Yup. Can you spend time amongst them? Yup. Can some of them help you? Yup. Are they “the Bad Guys”. Yup. “What if I raise a baby Orc in a Furfolk family?” That baby Orc will grow up to eventually bludgeon that family to death and eat them. That’s on you. The naive will be prey. If playing any of these characters the 2 speedbumps are many towns or civilizations not allowing you to pass freely and the Warden possibly using your Blessing against you at a crucial moment.
If players can’t find inner happiness unless they play humans… be aware of two loopholes. Humans DO exist in places like the Liminal City and have the ability to enter Rearth Vega from there. Also, humans have been extinct for so many countless centuries that almost no one in Rearth Vega has a clear concept of what a human even looks like. While the population are “humanoid”, they would most likely not notice a clothed human as being particularly any different than any other species they might encounter. If you wish to play anything “outside” of what might be the mainstream of Rearth Vega, list yourself as a “Liminal Citizen” on your character sheet.
