Blessed and Unblessed
The Blessed account for roughly up to 10% of the population. They have an aura, perceptible to high level magic users, that signifies a connection with a deity or divine presence. This aura can appear at any age and for many is a deeply personal emotional pull akin to feeling the desires and will of another alongside their own. Many Blessed at a young age are recruited and sent to training schools throughout the continent to one day join the Adventurer’s Guild.
With roughly 10 percent of the population are Blessed by a deity, there are a wide variety of social norms over the difference between Blessed and Unblessed. In many regions those with the ability to become Adventurers are held in high regard and are expected to use their abilities for the common good. Some regions have built elitist hierarchies where the Blessed hold all political and social power over the populace. Some regions use the Blessed as tools for their military regimes with all Blessed being identified and relinquished to the state for military servitude. There is even a diversity of opinions within the slavetrade with some regions refusing to enslave the Blessed on social or religious grounds while other regions find the Blessed to be of high value as slaves. There are also regions where the blessed are outcastes viewed as a cursed people or as a threat to the equality of the people.
Common effects of plane shifts on Unblessed, non-Adventurers….
Unblessed wandering into or abducted into the Faefree very quickly lose the ability to track time and eventually lose memories from outside the Faefree. After a long enough time they will be absorbed by the realm, sometimes becoming flora or fauna.
Unblessed brought into the Duskrealm are drained of their health, their mental faculties, and their personality. Many who have returned to Vega have lost their color, are emaciated, and often in a state of confusion, depression, and in some cases catatonic.
Unblessed brought to the Liminal City most often find their psyche shattered. All base emotions from fear to hunger become all encompassing and the sense of reality becomes fundamentally broken.
