Death and Resurrection
“Congratulations, you are dead.”
Resurrection
Adventurer’s have been Blessed and thus have unique skills and gifts not commonly available to all. Their ability to Bond themselves and the ease with which they can Resurrect is a testament to the Deity looking out for them. Many Adventurers will face Death… some will return.
Once dead, the spirit of the Adventurer will look to return to where it was last Bonded- whether a location or person, and the spirit will wait there to be called upon to return to its physical body. A magic caster can resurrect a party member and having the body and spirit are the best chance of a smooth resurrection. Missing the body or missing the spirit will increase the Tier of difficulty in performing a resurrection for a magic caster. For Adventurers without a magic caster, most towns have Temples who will perform a resurrection, sometimes for a donation or fee.
When an Adventurer dies while involved in combat they may have a chance at delivering a Coup de Grace, one final blow for double damage that is unleashed as the Adventurer dies.
Resurrection is never a guarantee and Adventurers should avoid death, literally as if their life depends on it, as experiencing death can open up a world of hazards (even if a resurrection is successful). Unbonded spirits can become lost, victimized, or drawn to rest in the Duskrealm. The attention of demons could be drawn, a spirit could be pulled in a caster’s magic experiment, or simply forget itself and become a ghost.
A Resurrection Chart can be used when a character has died and is able to be brought back to life. Any damage (permanent or otherwise) can be from the cause of death, the trauma of resurrection, or a payment or exchange for a return to life. For example, a character may lose a finger upon being resurrected. This may be from the sword attack that killed the character. It may be from an infection the body received from dying. It may be an offering or token taken in the afterlife that an entity required in exchange for the resurrection. The Warden can also decide how this loss appears to the player, for example, the finger has been chopped off and found on the ground after combat, the finger turns black from infection and falls off, or the character awakes and the finger is gone as if it had never been there.
