2.6 Basic and Extended Play

Basic and Extended Play options for Wardens to apply

These differences are simply a matter of Warden discretion for gameplay style. A crunchier, more number heavy, or more complex way of playing is found in Extended Play while Basic is not designed to be “lacking” but to be a simpler approach to playing.

Rolling

BSCRoll 2d10 and take the highest combination
EXTCards. Pull from a shuffled card deck, compare to Card Chart

Combat Tiers

BSCWeaker enemies are 1 Tier down, stronger enemies are 1 Tier up. Beast Lords and Dragons are always an additional 1 Tier.
EXTRefer to Enemy Charts for level difference and adjust Tier based off of the Enemy to Player level difference. Enemies have 10 possible Tiers. The Warden can increase the Tier difference past one.

Combat Priority

BSCAside from Surprise situations a 2d10 roll off can determine Enemy vs Player side priority. Players can go in the order of their own strategy
EXTDice. Each Player and Each Enemy roll a 2d10 for their order position in an encounter.

Weapon Durability

BSCDuring a battle where a Player rolls a 00 Critical Fail, the Weapon they are using is mishandled and dropped, requiring an action to retrieve.
EXTDuring a battle where a Player rolls a 00 Critical Fail, Weapons or Armor run the risk of damage. The Warden can have the Player roll for damage. An A,B,or C roll may mark or ding a Rusty or Basic Weapon/Armor. A failed roll will destroy a Rusty Weapon/Armor or a failed roll will render a Basic Weapon/Armor unusable until it can be maintained properly during a Full Rest.

Lighting

BSCIn lowlight to no light conditions, unless darkened by magic, a Players candle, lamp, or torch can give the Party a field of vision of, perhaps, 5 Squares
EXTNot only increase attention to limiting the Players point of view with obstacles and shadows, but also account for the expendable nature of their light source. Over the course of an adventure count a d10 from 9 down to 0 for every 15 minutes spent lit, until the light source is replaced.

Death and Stress

BSCIn an unfamiliar environment Players have a 1 Tier Stress Penalty
EXTA Player who dies in a Stressful environment may be Reincarnated, but gains an additional Tier of Stress upon Reincarnation. The new Stress Penalty stays with the Player permanently until they face their fear by returning to a similar environment (and enter that location with what would then be 2 Tiers of Stress Penalty if they are unfamiliar with that environment)

Dice Roll Additions

BSC2d10 handles all rolls with modifiers
EXTThe Warden and Players can agree to replace or include all other die styles within the game, some people are addicted to different types of dice. Modifiers can be replaced with rolls, instead of a flat modification number. Players roll their 2d10 then add a rolled d4,6,8,or d10 representing their weapon or modifiers.
