Pet
Players may earn a pet in their travels. Pets are not the same as steeds or “handled” animals that can be ridden or controlled in battle. Pets are loyal and follow you but do not do your bidding beyond basic “sit, stay,” type commands. The GM controls pets when you request actions from them so if a pet is not in your bag or outside a dungeon the GM will interpret any requests for action you have into Pet responses. It should be expected your Pets are not fully characters with full character actions.
*Fey or undead pets (think blinkdog) may only appear in combat and attack if you roll a particular number (roll a 77 and a skeletal spiderwolf appears and attacks then disappears.
Working Animals:
A player with Animal Handling Training can have a working animal with them. Unlike Pets, these “handled” animals have a higher ability to follow commands and be involved in combat. Movement of a Working Animal is under the control of its trainer and on the trainer’s turn. Working Animals have the same distance as their trainers, 50 HP, and no bonus to attack or defense. Stress and penalties on their handler will apply to the Working Animals. Successful attack damage is not a total of the two dice, but the rolled outcome of the highest die.
If a working animal is of sufficient size it can also be used as a mount by a player with Rider Training.
A mounted player with Animal Handling and Rider training gains 2 additional squares of movement per turn and can Withdraw from melee combat without triggering a chance attack once per turn.
